Ampless Rig is the way to go

After rehearsing last night, I'm starting to favor a setup without an amplifier, or an "ampless rig". It's enjoyable to play through a 100-watt amp and 4x12 speaker cabinet, but that level of volume is unnecessary these days, particularly if there is a high quality PA system available. Sound reinforcement technology has advanced to the point that one only needs to focus on achieving good tone. With modern PA systems, it's becoming increasingly difficult to push amps to their optimal "sweet spot" in terms of sound.
