Good Bye Ollama, Hello LM Studio

Good Bye Ollama, Hello LM Studio

Apr 28, 2026

After two years running Ollama for local LLM inference, I switched to LM Studio. Not because Ollama is bad - it got me started. But LM Studio solves the things that kept annoying me.

imageThe article covers what made me switch: JIT model loading (no manual pull/run), a headless daemon mode, dual OpenAI + Anthropic-compatible APIs, LM Link for distributed inference across machines, and an actual GUI that doesn't get in the way.

I also compare CUDA, llama.cpp, vLLM, and Ollama side by side with a "hardcoreness rating" if you want the full picture of what's out there for running models on your own hardware.
