Challenge
The orphanages in Medellin are home to vulnerable children who have been impacted by adverse situations such as internal conflicts, violence, unemployment, and poverty, which have affected Colombia over the last five decades. These children, often forgotten and marginalized, face daily challenges. Many of their caregivers struggle to meet their basic needs, and the possibility of buying Christmas gifts is an unattainable luxury for them. Solution
When you make a donation to the Holiday Smiles Gift Fund, we will purchase gifts of equal value for every child - That way, no child feels left out or less special! We are aiming to purchase and wrap NEW gifts that cost approximately $ 10 USD each. Our volunteers, who have spent more than a year working in these neighborhoods, know many of the children personally. They will purchase the gifts, so every registered child receives a present that is appropriate, meaningful, and useful.
Long-Term Impact
This project is about the opportunity to model kindness, gratitude, and community. It will help these kids to feel a little more special, loved, and remembered this Christmas. Practices/traditions like gift-giving during the holidays can have a positive impact on kids' perceived happiness and mood.
