Handy ways to maximise your Avios if you are in the UK

Oct 11, 2026

Avios are the currency of British Airways loyalty scheme. Along with Iberia and some other partner airlines, if you want to book a reward flight, you will need a certain number of Avios, plus cash to pay taxes. Read until the end for handy articles and explanations.

But did you know that there are other ways of earning besides British Airways flights? Here are just some of them.

  1. Earn from partner airline flights.

When booking a flight with Iberia, Iberia Express, Qatar, American or many other partner airlines, you can earn points. Points earnt will vary depending on fare class and/or price paid and class of travel. Simply enter your BA Club number whilst making the reservation, if not booked at ba.com

  2. Earn from some non-partner airlines.

Travelling with Vueling? Flights no longer earn BA Avios unless the flight has as a BA flight number. But there is a workaround. Create an Iberia Plus account. Book your Vueling flight, through their website or a third-party site such as booking.com

When booking, look for the field “loyalty” or “loyalty number.” Then, enter your Iberia Plus number. A few days after your flight, login to your Iberia account to check the points have been credited. Then you can convert from Iberia to BA. The same works when travelling with Binter Canarias.

  3. Earn from Uber or Uber Eats.

Simply add your BA number in the Uber app, under settings. You will earn 2-3 points per £1. Note that if you select “wait and save” you will not earn Avios. On the flip side, airport rides earn more. For Uber Eats, you must spend £25 or more, excluding any fees. Alcohol purchases are also excluded.

  4. Earn from duty-free purchases plus save at airports.

Club Avolta is an app that is free to use and automatically unlocks 5% of duty-free purchases and meals at selected UK airports. There are some exclusions such as items already on promotion or multi-buy deals. However, you can earn 1 Avios per £1 spent at Heathrow Duty Free and 1 Avios per 1€ at Spanish airports. You can combine this with Club Avolta’s own loyalty scheme plus Heathrow Rewards if shopping at Heathrow. There are also competitions and other offers in the app, including discounted airport lounge access. Simply link your BA account once signed up.

  5. Earn from Sainsbury’s shopping.

If you do not already have Nectar, create a free account. Then, once you have 400 or more Nectar points, these can be converted to BA Avios. The process does take around 2 weeks once requested, and the exchange rate is not the best, but it can be a helpful boost. You can also convert in the other direction should you have spare Avios and want to save on groceries. Get the Nectar app for handy bonuses, too.

  6. Convert from Revolut

If you have Revolut, you could be sitting on Avios without even knowing about it. Open the app, then go to the bottom right and click on “RevPoints.” The rate you earn depends on your plan. You also get bonuses for shopping at certain stores and completing challenges. You can exchange RevPoints to BA Avios as well as other airline partners at a rate of 1:1 - better than Nectar. Plus, the transfer is usually instant.
