We are never caught off guard by the unexpected when the mind remains anchored in God. Surprise belongs to those who forget that every visible change unfolds beneath unseen laws and principalities. The world turns as it always has, with powers moving beneath the surface of events. The one who remembers this does not fear what comes.
To prepare the mind for anything is to recall that we live amid constant spiritual weather. Thoughts, emotions, and circumstances pass like clouds, but the soul can rest where the wind cannot reach. Stillness is the true armor. In silence the Archons lose their grip, for they cannot enter where no motion answers them.
This prayer follows the ancient way of hesychastic stillness: breathing the Name inwardly until thought itself bends before the Word. Use it when agitation begins, or whenever the world presses too near.
Prayer of Stillness
Lord Jesus Christ, Word of the Living God,
gather every wandering motion into the heart.
Let my breath carry Your Name,
inhaling mercy, exhaling fear.
Silence the noise of the Archons
and make my mind a temple of peace.
Let every thought bow before Your Light,
until only love remains.
Amen.
Practice Note:
Sit upright with feet grounded or legs folded. Place one hand lightly over the heart. Inhale through the nose and inwardly say, “Lord Jesus Christ.” Exhale gently and say, “Have mercy on me.” Continue in a slow rhythm for several minutes. When thoughts arise, let them pass without struggle. The goal is not to banish thought but to let the Word gather all thought into stillness. End by resting a moment in silence before returning to your day.
