Have you ever had an animal whose behavior had you thinking, "What is really going on here?"
This was the case in our intuitive spotlight during last month's call, with the handsome Mr. Ringo.
His mom reports, "Ringo still freezes every few driveways while walking, or won't go off the porch at all. But if I drop the leash, he runs off happy as a lark! Why is this happening?
Before we try to answer that question, we pause.
What do we actually know?
We know that Ringo:
freezes every few driveways while on leash
sometimes refuses to leave the porch
behaves differently when the leash is dropped
runs off happily when he is free to do so
Observation is simply noticing what is happening without adding a reason, story, diagnosis, or meaning to it.
We might wonder if Ringo is afraid, stubborn, distracted, overwhelmed, sensing something, or communicating something important…
…but none of those are observations yet.
They are interpretations.
When we slow down enough to separate what we see from what we think it means, we create space to listen more clearly.
In part 3 we'll discuss the difference between our interpretation of our observations, versus our intuition.
If you’re curious about learning more about this way of connecting with animals, Wild Kin Soul Circle is where we explore these ideas together. Your animal companion may even be featured as an animal spotlight.
