Dear Alieu,

I wanted to let you know that I’m now working in collaboration with the Mothers Club Organization (MCO) in Brikama, The Gambia. They will be reaching out to you soon to meet and offer their guidance on how best I might be of help.

imageAbout the Mothers Club Organization (MCO)

The Mothers Club Organization—also known as GAMCO—is a community-based, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable children, particularly orphans, through education and social support. The group is entirely volunteer-run, ensuring that every donation directly benefits those in need.

Founded on September 1, 2014, MCO is registered under The Gambia Companies Act (No. 2014/C1203; Tax ID: 1850019606). It was established by Mr. Matthew A. Gomez, an educationist with nearly three decades of experience, who has served as teacher, Senior Master, Vice Principal, and Principal. Mr. Gomez also holds management degrees from the University of The Gambia and has worked with partners such as Mr. Mark Cockerton to improve school standards throughout the country.

Mission and Vision

MCO’s mission is “to empower poor and needy orphans in The Gambia with access to education, fostering their social well-being and development to break the cycle of poverty.” Its vision is a society that welcomes and uplifts orphans and vulnerable children—healing emotional wounds, building confidence, and nurturing opportunity.

Key Areas of Work

MCO’s ongoing programs include:

Education Support: Providing school supplies, meals, and learning opportunities for orphans and underprivileged children.

Water and Sanitation: Bringing clean, safe drinking water to communities, improving health and livelihoods.

Women’s and Community Empowerment: Supporting rural women and elders through projects like the GIRAV initiative, which helps women’s groups (such as the Mothers Club in Basse) gain food security and economic independence through poultry and farming.

Broader Support: Partnering with local families and organizations to care for vulnerable children and elders.

Achievements and Partnerships

MCO has expanded educational and water access across The Gambia and collaborated with UNICEF and FAWEGAM to support girls’ education and empowerment. Their ongoing success through the GIRAV project continues to transform lives in rural communities.
