The weather is finally changing, and so too is my life.
I look forward to the breezes of fall because the summers are so hot where I live. I feel this year was the hottest it has ever been. The heat was unrelenting, much like the season of life I have just endured.
In life, we have seasons, and I am finally emerging from the toughest one I have ever experienced. I have been through difficult times before, but this was different. Throughout my life, I have suffered great loss, but this past season was truly one for the books.
One thing we can be assured of is change. That I know.
It was one of the truths I held on to during the storms I went through. I knew that at some point, they would end. Nothing remains the same forever, not even the darkest of nights.
And now, after everything I have been through, I find myself looking forward to life again.
I have also come to understand that much of what we accumulate eventually finds its way back to others. As I shed the past, I have discovered that there is real freedom in release.
At first, it was difficult to let go of all my things. I had spent years buying, collecting, and storing possessions that I believed were important. But over time, letting go became easier. I began to realize how much those things had been weighing me down.
And I fully embraced the idea of never returning to those old habits.
Everything I had accumulated was either given to others, sold, or thrown away. What began as a painful process became one of the greatest lessons of my life.
I learned what was truly important, and I will tell you, it is not things.
Recently, I visited a dear friend in my community. Her home was minimalist, peaceful, and free of clutter. The moment I entered, I felt a sense of calm.
She is a kindred spirit.
Because she is not weighed down by possessions, she has the freedom to focus on what matters most. Her beautiful self and the people around her.
She is one of the loveliest people I know, kind, compassionate, and generous in spirit. There is something so beautiful about a person who understands that the richness of life has very little to do with what we own.
Perhaps that is what this season has been teaching me all along.
It has taken me all these years to return to the common denominator.
The Most High.
Through every loss, every storm, every door that closed, and every moment when I wondered how I would make it through, the Most High was there.
Teaching me.
Guiding me.
Giving me every reason to hang on during this wild ride we call life.
And now, as the seasons change, I can feel something changing within me.
I no longer wish to carry what was never meant to come with me.
The past has served its purpose.
The lessons have been learned.
And just like the cool breezes of fall, a new season is finding its way into my life.
I welcome it with open arms.
There is freedom in letting go, and there is grace in beginning again.
