I’m a girl who believes in self-care and self-love, and I practice both regularly.
When I say, “Self-care,” most people think self-care means spa days, vacations, expensive shopping, luxury products, or expensive food in a luxurious restaurant.
But that’s not true.
Self-care is also found in small, everyday moments that nourish your well-being.
Here are some of the most underrated forms of self-care that deserve more recognition:
1. Giving yourself extra time to get somewhere
Allow yourself extra time to reach a destination reduces stress, helps you stay present, and lets you enjoy the journey instead of feeling hurried.
2. Have a day for yourself to reset and recognize.
Take some time to rest.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do is step away from your busy routine. Whether it’s a quiet day at home or a solo trip.
Taking time to reset helps you regain clarity and energy.
3. Intentionally slowing down to notice the details around you.
We’re living in a world where everything moves fast.
Life moves fast, but self-care includes taking moments to notice the beauty around you — whether it’s the way sunlight filters through trees or the sound of laughter nearby.
4. Spending time without your phone or devices to recharge.
Spending time with yourself without a phone or device helps to understand yourself.
Disconnecting, even for a few hours, allows your mind to recharge and deepen your connection with yourself and others.
5. Give yourself a few hours to do nothing.
Taking a few hours to do nothing might seem unproductive, but it’s actually an essential practice for mental clarity, creativity, and well-being.
Doing nothing doesn’t mean staring at the wall.
It could be sitting quietly, lying down, watching the sky, or listening to the sounds around you.
Try it and notice how refreshed you feel.
6. Dressing for comfort.
Choose clothes that make you feel at ease, both physically and mentally.
Wear outfits that suit your lifestyle, body, and mood rather than just following fashion trends.
When you’re comfortable, you can focus better on your task.
I always prefer to wear a cotton T-shirt and loose-fitting jeans.
7. Getting a few minutes of fresh air.
Getting a few minutes of fresh air is a simple yet powerful habit that can refresh your mind and body.
Whether it’s stepping outside your home, taking a short walk, or just opening a window.
Fresh air has several benefits:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Increase energy level
Boost mental clarity
Improve mood
Support overall health
Even just 5–10 minutes outside can make a big difference.
8. Spending time with people who make you feel loved.
Being around those who genuinely care for you creates a sense of belonging and strengthens your well-being.
Spending time with people who make you feel loved is one of the most fulfilling ways to recharge emotionally and mentally.
Time spent with loved ones is never wasted. Whether it’s deep conversations, shared meals, or laughter, these moments add meaning to life.
Spend time with people who uplift you, and make you feel safe.
9. Minding your own business.
Minding your own business is a powerful practice that leads to peace, self-growth, and healthier relationships.
It means focusing on your own life, goals, and well-being instead of getting into unnecessary drama or conversations.
Focus only on what truly matters to you.
10. Letting go of the need to always be doing something.
Letting go of this urge allows you to live more mindfulness and enjoy life as it unfolds.
It improves your productivity and clarity.
11. Drinking enough water.
Drinking enough water is very important.
Many people don’t drink enough water. Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to feel better, think more clearly, and maintain overall well-being.
Carry a water bottle, eat hydrating foods like fruits, and veggies, and set reminders to drink water regularly.
Your body will thank you.
12. Expressing what’s on your mind to someone you trust.
I believe in expressing, no matter what I always express who I truly trust.
Expressing helps to relieve stress, and strengthen relationships.
A trusted friend, family member, or mentor can offer guidance, or simply a listening ear.
You don’t have to carry everything alone — sharing is healing.
13. Take pride in your progress and celebrate yourself.
Every step forward, no matter how small, is an achievement.
Recognizing your progress keeps you motivated and reminds you of how far you’ve come.
Treat yourself after achieving a goal — whether it’s a break or a small gift.
Always remember, you’re your biggest supporter.
Celebrate yourself, because you deserve it!
14. Pausing before you respond.
Pause before responding.
It’s very important.
Taking a moment to pause before responding allows you to think clearly.
Choose your words wisely, and respond with intention. You respond in a way that aligns with your values and intentions.
A thoughtful pause leads to better conversations and strong relationships.
15. Getting enough sleep(7 to 8 hours).
Quality sleep is just as important as diet and exercise.
Sleeping 7 to 8 hours a night helps your body recharge and improve your brain functions.
Your body repairs and fights infections while you sleep, and proper sleep regulates blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart disease.
Maintain a bed routine, avoid screens before bed, and create a relaxing environment for restful sleep.
I’m sure your body and mind will thank you.
16. Take a moment to savor and appreciate where you are now.
Right now is a part of your story, cherish it.
Pausing and appreciating the present moments brings peace, gratitude, and fulfillment.
17. Soaking up the sunlight.
Spending time in the sun isn’t just enjoyable, it’s essential for your health.
A few minutes of sunlight each day can make a big difference.
Sunlight helps your body to produce Vitamin D, which is crucial for strong bones, immunity, and mood regulation.
It also helps to sleep better.
Hopefully, that’s helpful.
