I've been looking forward to making deeper dives into the how and why of my creative practices, whether that is painting, illustration, or animation — my trio of hats that I wear.
I attend regular life drawing sessions in my local town of Annapolis Royal, and I have to say, ever since College, life drawing really is the backbone of my art. It always seems to ground me, bring me peace even amidst bleak news headlines, and keeps me sharpening my skills (and pencils).
Even for those that are far more interested in painting, or coloured work generally, it is hard for me to imagine how I would proceed with painting without regularly attending life drawing. Navigating the challenges of colour gets a lot easier when you can really train your idea to see the most subtle of nuances, and not just see it, but to understand it. The beautiful planes of the body really train you to see and notice the way lights reflects, how to convey weight, and more.
