Gaia Redgrave is a freelance visual artist and founder of Rewilding the Artist & Cathedralof the Trees. She is an authentic leader focusing on a Culture of Care / Kindness, neurodiversity, and equity for all within the visual arts.
It is often said that Gaia is the ‘go-to’ person in Wales for consultancy, mentoring and advice in relation neurodiversity within the arts. Through the process of Rewilding the Artist, Gaia supports projects & organisations to develop a Culture of Care and equity; as well as individual artists to develop their practice into a sustainable process that aims to support financial & mental wellbeing.
The process of Rewilding the Artist was specifically developed (with the kind support of Arts Council Wales & the National Lottery), for neurodivergent and / or disabled artists but is applicable to all who wish to improve accessibility and to support their wellbeing through sustainable practice.
Gaia has worked with organisations such as Arts Council Wales (ACW), Welsh Arts International (WAI), Wales Culture Alliance (WCA), Oriel Davies & g39, Cardiff on a freelance basis reviewing calls for artists, access policies, cultural contracts, and strategic equality action plans (SEAPs). Gaia is an experienced selection panel member and is currently working with ACW & the Centre for Alternative Technology supporting the development of the National Arts Climate Strategy.
She believes that everyone should be able to have positive experiences and quality opportunities in life, and not be disadvantaged due to lived experience. She believes in the strength and power of knowledge, kindness & the act of supporting each other to enable great things to happen.
Gaia’s making practice makes manifest that which is often unseen; the Ma (the space between), perceived reality and imaginary all filtered through personal sensory experience. She weaves together (physically and metaphorically), neurodivergent sensory response & human innate connection with the land and how that mirrors our conscious experience of life. As well as woven works, Gaia also utilises sound, film & performance.
Gaia is proud to be an Arts Council Wales Associate & Oriel Davies Associate Artist.
