Acerca de Gabriel Chalut
The Cinnamon Roll Triathlete!
Gabriel Chalut is a 21-year-old who comes from Windsor, ON,Canada. He began his athletic pursuit early in life and was a five-sport athlete at Holy Names Catholic High School, where he also held a 95% cumulative average in his academic courses.
When Covid-19 hit, Gabriel was forced to study online at home. To his disappointment and sadness, he felt school was too frustrating and wanted to devote his time and efforts towards a full-time athletic career. With his older brother at his side, Gabriel embarked on training full-time in his home garage following the mantra of Nick Bare,“Go One More”. Gabriel and his brother decided to train for something he never did before, to compete in a triathlon. Swimming, cycling and running were the three sports he had yet to participate in.
Gabriel proceeded to sign up to race his first 70.3 Ironman in Muskoka, Ontario in August 2021. With grit and determination, Gabriel and his brother did whatever they thought it would take to complete such a feat. Not only did Gabriel complete the Ironman, he placed 3rd in his age division and 41st out of 1091 finishers with an overall time of 4:44:53. This performance is what qualified Gabriel for the World Championships in Utah in 2022.
After this remarkable performance, Gabriel’s family, friends, and community spectators saw the potential of a great triathlete. Gabriel went on to begin racing crit races in 2022 at the local ciociaro club as well as cycling races in Michigan, where he finished 1 st place in both circuits. In the 2022 season, he completed four more 70.3 Ironman triathlons (Steelhead Benton Harbour Michigan, Sandusky Ohio, Frankfort Michigan, as well as the Utah World Championships).
Completing the 2022 season, Gabriel was committed to receiving his pro card. He teamed up with NVDM coaching in Texas in December 2022, and committed to move out to Texas to train full time with his new team during 2023 off season. After a long winter of training and discipline, he went on to compete in 6 additional 70.3 Ironman races with impressive finishes: 7th overall Galveston, 4th overall in Muskoka, 4th overall in Maine, 2nd overall in Mont Tremblant, 4th overall in Frankfort, and 4th overall in Indiana to close off his 2023 season.
Gabriel Chalut is in pursuit of becoming a World Champion in 70.3 Ironman. In just two years, Gabriel has gone from no triathlon experience to competing with some of the best age group triathletes on the World stage. His dream is to follow Lionel Sanders, his idol’s footsteps and make triathlon a professional career.
