Learning a new language as an adult is hard work so you need to hold yourself accountable. This is particularly important while you’re not speaking in your new tongue because it’s incredibly easy to fall back to the comfort of our own languages and habits.

The easiest way to handle this is to give yourself a system. I created a database to track my learning time across each activity and found it really useful. Download my template to print it out and do the same for yourself.

This is going to ensure you’ve spread your time in the most effective ways and keep you accountable for the first 3 to 6 months. Frankly it’s probably not sustainable to do this beyond six months (but up to you!) and you won’t need it as you'll see enough progress, have made it a habit and be chasing the language input that brings you joy and education.
