Montana de Galdar, Gran Canaria (near distance) & Mount Teide, Tenerife (far distance) - Mount Teide is 3745 metres above sea level at the summit, nearly three times as high at the summit as Britain's tallest mountain, Ben Nevis!
My wife & I recently enjoyed twelve days in Gran Canaria. I always find my mind frees up on holidays, especially in the beautiful sunshine and warmth offered in places like the Canaries in autumn and early spring.
I hope this deviation from my normal posts adds joy to your day;
Touchdown for the Brexit Brits,
At Las Palmas Airport,
Customs show their awkward teeth,
With machines for passports now reset,
We wait yet more,
To have them stamped,
Before finally we all depart,
To explore this sunshine island
When the sixties arrived,
People flocked to these tropics,
All of a sudden,
Fishing would fade,
Embracing the tourists,
These islands were made
Far too few small fishing boats,
Afloat on gentle waves,
Where once there were many,
Feeding the island,
Their healthy daily seafood diet
As the incoming waves meet the rocks,
Many metres from the shore,
Their acoustic noise enhances
The broad expanse of yellow sand,
Shrinks as the incoming tide encroaches,
Ever narrowing it's band
Whatever the hour,
On the beach & the walkway,
From yoga and running,
To bathing and sunning,
Always in view,
Are locals and tourists
Giant, towering mountains rise high in the sky,
Making Scots question,
Why Ben Nevis is 'high'
Writing greats have been drawn here,
If crime is your game,
Agatha Christie's the name,
The death of her mother,
Plus a divorce
If Hemingway is your man,
The sun also rises,
He too found magic,
In the Canaries
Movies also are filmed here,
Jennifer Lopez among many stars,
Here in The Mother,
Gran Canaria's big canyon
Was where she trained
Pretending it was Afghanistan!
For beautiful art and wonderful crafts,
There are plenty of places,
To. Increase your heart's paces
If religious you be,
There is so much to see,
Experience also,
The wonders of God
Beauty from heaven,
Shows in Cathedrals and churches alike
Gran Canaria makes,
Your heart and mind swell,
So many stories,
So much to tell
