What can Nature teach us about interdependence?

Sep 14, 2026

imageOur modern society glorifies being independent; standing alone on our own two feet, not needing help, being separate and self-sufficient.

It is all an illusion of course.

We are woven into the fabric of nature too.

We may not see it, or think about it much during our busy days but we depend on countless other species and human beings. From the fungi enriching the soil to the farmer growing the food we eat to the bacteria in our digestive systems breaking the food down.

Every moment of our lives is supported by the web of life.

Being out in nature can help remind us of this truth. Especially getting to know ‘indicator species and elements’, who make these often unseen connections much more visible.

In this month’s Forest School Community Connection Call we’ll explore how increasing awareness of indicator species can start the journey of ecological discovery and why this is so important for the children of today.

Join our next Forest School Community Call as we explore this idea together, including:

= ) What are indicator species and elements and what are they showing us?

= ) Developing ecological understanding through relationship

= ) What does being ‘truly helpful’ actually mean in terms interdependence?
