Hi folks
My name is Will Gethin, host of the Follow Your Blissters podcast, which shares the personal stories of frontier thought leaders through the lens of The Hero's Journey.
Provided free of charge, this podcast is a labour of love which incurs considerable time and costs to host and produce each episode at a high quality. If you’ve been inspired by, or have benefitted from this podcast in any way, and would like to help keep it going on a regular basis, I’d be thrilled and incredibly grateful if you'd utilise this 'Buy Me a Coffee' platform as a way to support Follow Your Blissters - it's an easy way to make donations in increments of £5.
For some background on the show and my personal inspiration for creating it...
A map for transformational storytelling reflecting the archetypal patterns of myths, the hero's journey structure allows me to take a deep dive into the lives of each guest I interview. We explore their instinctive drives, their challenges and fears, their crises and breakthroughs, and all the learnings, fruits and wisdom of their journeys.
For the interviews I work with five core stages of The Hero's Journey:
1. Call to Adventure
2. On the Road
3. Dark Wood
4. Treasure
5. The Return
When I first discovered The Hero’s Journey, I was amazed to discover that this ancient archetypal story arc curiously mirrored an intensely challenging 'dark night of the soul' journey I had experienced a few years previously. It was a journey of crisis and renewal which ultimately brought profound healing and change as I began to create a more creative, nourishing and meaningful life.
The more I read about the Hero’s Journey the more it helped me to understand and make sense of that 'breakdown-breakthrough' journey. In his book The Writer’s Journey, Christopher Vogler calls The Hero’s Journey “a complete instruction manual in the art of being human”, and I have found it extremely helpful to discover firsthand how an understanding of this alchemical map can inform, guide and transform our lives.
I have since facilitated Hero's Journey workshops and retreats helping others to apply this alchemical template to create change. And I hope that in sharing the journeys of the maverick modern pilgrims featured in this podcast, you will be inspired and guided on your own journey, at whatever stage you're at....whether it be setting out to find your true calling, navigating a road of trials, getting lost in a dark wood, finding your 'gold in the dark', or working out what boon you can bring back to share for the benefit of others.
Any support you can give to fuel the cause and keep this show rolling will be hugely appreciated. Every little bit helps!
With Love,
Will
