2026 Q3: What happened this summer?

## Projects

This summer, I worked mostly on my blog, but that doesn't mean I didn't work on my software projects, so let's start with them! 😊

### rst2gemtext

rst2gemtext is a small Python library and a CLI tool to convert the reStructuredText markup format into Gemtext, the format used by Gemini (the protocol not Google's AI).

This summer I released two versions of this library : v0.7.0 and v0.7.1. They added support for the reStructuredText "csv-table" and "list-table" directives, which allow users to generate tables from CSV and lists.

### Cover Thumbnailer

Cover Thumbnailer is one of my older software projects. It displays music album covers and image previews in Nautilus, Caja, Nemo and Thunar file managers.

imageI do not actively develop this software anymore, but I still release new versions when contributors submit pull requests. A few days ago, Ricardo Simões completed the Portuguese translation, so I released v0.10.4. The configuration GUI of Cover Thumbnailer is now fully available in Portuguese.

You can find this new version on GitHub:

And while we're talking about Cover Thumbnailer, I want to tell you about Nemo Folder Preview, a new fork focused on the image preview feature and the Nemo file browser. It currently looks like this:

Thank you Lucas for keeping Cover Thumbnailer alive through your project! 😀

### Rivalcfg

Rivalcfg is a Python library and a CLI tool to configure SteelSeries gaming mice on Linux, macOS and Windows.

I didn't have much time to work on it this summer, but some new features and a bunch of fixes are incoming, as you can see in the "[NEXT]" section of the changelog:

In addition to these changes, support for the Aerox 3 Wireless Gen 2 is in progress as you can see in the following GitHub issue:

I am also aware of two new devices announced a few days ago: the Sensei Pro and the Rival Pro.

imageThe big novelty of those new mice is that they can be configured using your browser (via WebHID) instead of a desktop application. This means they can be configured from any modern operating system without requiring you to install any drivers or additional software. With that in mind, I don't know if it is useful to add support for them to Rivalcfg or not. I will have to think about it.

## Blog / Articles

This summer I was very prolific on my blog, mostly thanks to the new "Journal de bord" format. I published 12 articles : 6 regular articles, and 6 JDBs.

imageThe first article was a kind of anniversary one. It was the blog's 100th article and was published (almost) in time for the blog's 13th anniversary.

imageThe next two articles are related to Nextcloud. One is about reverting to the horizontal menu after upgrading to Nextcloud 34, and the other one is about a bug in Nautilus/GNOME Keyring that broke the connection to the Nextcloud WebDAV server.

imageThen, in September, I published an article about Sidebery, a Firefox extension I rely on. It allows me to keep more than 300 tabs open without losing my mind... 😅

imageThe last two articles are about my new mini-e-reader: the XTEINK X4 Classic. The first one explains how to install CrossPoint Reader (an alternative open source firmware) on it, and the second one shares my impressions of the device after about a week of use.

imageAnd finally the JDBs... I wrote about my projects, about the Mass Effect games I played, about the articles I appreciated, about my challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day (for two years now!),... I will not detail them more here, it would be too long. You can find them in the dedicated category on the blog if you are interested: 😄

## That's all folks

Writing in English isn't very easy for me, but I try to publish a newsletter every quarter. The next one should be out in January to recap the end of the year. See ya! o/
