i think that to inspire more kids to read for pleasure some steps might be
1. Create a time block for fostering the love of reading. What this means is that this time is dedicated to focus on the fun of reading, like making voices to bring the text to life, making it social by reading together (Vogrinčič Čepič et. al., 2024). An experiment to try as well during this time is to try to control our impulse to use this time block to correct, and force children to read in our way, just take notice of what gaps they have in their reading skills and use that to guide you in helping them in your reading skill development time block later on.
2. let kids choose what they want to read, provide choice that reflects their interests.(Vogrinčič Čepič et. al., 2024)
3. create a reading profile for each child to know their current reading skill level and interests.(Vogrinčič Čepič et. al., 2024)
4. create time blocks for reading skill development, maybe not too long and here is where we can teach phonics, decoding and sharing the habits of good readers.
