When people think about healing, they often think about the body. They think of illness, pain, discomfort, and the medicines needed to restore wellness. Yet in the teachings of Hilot Binabaylan, healing extends far beyond the physical body.
A person's well-being is interconnected with many aspects of life. Illness may manifest not only through physical discomfort but also through emotional distress, mental exhaustion, social conflict, spiritual imbalance, and even recurring financial difficulties. There are times when a person has already undergone healing sessions, received spiritual support, carried protective amulets, charms, or talismans, and yet problems continue to return.
When this happens, Hilot Binabaylan asks an important question:
What if the source of imbalance is not the person, but the place where they live?
The House as a Living Environment
Every day we absorb the energies, emotions, memories, and influences present in our surroundings. The home is not merely a structure made of wood, concrete, or steel. It is a living environment where relationships are nurtured, dreams are formed, and memories are created.
Just as the human body can become burdened with stress and imbalance, so too can a home accumulate conditions that affect the well-being of its occupants.
This is where the practice of House Cleansing and House Blessing becomes an important part of the healing tradition of Hilot Binabaylan.
Is It Really a Haunting?
One of the most common reasons people request a house cleansing is because they believe their home is haunted by spirits or negative entities.
However, in our experience as Hilot Binabaylan practitioners, this is not always the case.
Before making assumptions, we first perform a traditional diagnostic process known as Tawas Diagnosis. This helps us determine the underlying cause of the disturbances being experienced by the occupants.
Sometimes the issue may involve spiritual influences. Sometimes it may be emotional residue. At other times it may be rooted in the thoughts and behaviors of the people currently living within the home.
Proper diagnosis always comes before intervention.
Understanding the Tagalugar
Many homes, buildings, and even large commercial structures are constructed upon land that has a much older history than the people who now occupy it.
According to Indigenous Filipino understanding, many places are inhabited by unseen beings known as Tagalugar, a type of Engkanto associated with a particular location.
These beings are regarded not as demons or evil spirits but as the original inhabitants and guardians of the land. Long before roads were built, before houses stood, and before modern communities emerged, they were already present.
For this reason, Hilot Binabaylan does not approach House Cleansing as a battle against unseen beings.
Instead, it is approached as a process of respectful negotiation and coexistence.
We recognize that our human lives are brief. Generations come and go. Yet the Tagalugar may have been present on the land for centuries.
We view them as Elders of the Place.
Our goal is not to force them away but to restore harmony between the human occupants and the existing spiritual ecology of the land.
The Healing Ritual
Once the source of imbalance is identified, a House Blessing may proceed.
Traditionally, seven strips of young coconut leaves are used to sweep the walls, corners, and spaces of the house. This symbolic act removes stagnant and disruptive energies.
Holy water is then sprinkled throughout the property to purify the environment and wash away lingering negativity.
A candle is lit as a symbol of divine guidance, protection, and hope. Carrying the flame from the exterior toward the interior of the property, prayers are offered for peace, harmony, prosperity, health, and spiritual protection.
Incense is then burned to extend blessings throughout the home and create energetic boundaries of protection.
At the conclusion of the ritual, food is shared among family members and participants.
This shared meal is not merely a social gathering. It is a celebration of renewed harmony and an act of welcoming future blessings into the home.
The Hidden Influence of Psychic Imprints
Not every problem in a house involves spirits.
Many people move into rental properties, renovated houses, or inherited family homes and immediately conclude that strange experiences indicate a haunting.
In reality, what they may be encountering is something known as a Psychic Imprint.
Psychic Imprints are emotional and mental residues left behind by previous occupants.
Arguments, grief, anger, fear, anxiety, trauma, and prolonged stress can leave a lasting energetic impression within a space.
When former residents move away, they take their physical belongings with them, but sometimes the emotional atmosphere remains.
Sensitive individuals may unconsciously absorb these residues and interpret them as paranormal activity.
Because these imprints are not spirits, the solution is not exorcism.
The solution is transformation.
As we often say:
Emotion is Energy in Motion.
When energy has become stagnant, it must be moved, redirected, and renewed.
Through prayer, blessing, dedication, and intentional acts of healing, the atmosphere of a home can be transformed into one that nurtures peace, comfort, and well-being.
Sometimes the Problem Is Us
One of the most overlooked sources of household imbalance comes from the people currently living within the home.
Families often carry unspoken frustrations, unresolved conflicts, disappointments, resentments, and emotional wounds.
When communication breaks down, energetic tension accumulates.
Over time, the home begins to reflect the emotional climate of its residents.
A house blessing can certainly help, but true healing also requires honest conversation, forgiveness, mutual respect, and intentional efforts to strengthen family relationships.
The most powerful blessing in any home is still the love shared by the people who live there.
A Home That Supports Healing
In Hilot Binabaylan, healing is not limited to treating symptoms.
Healing means understanding the entire environment that influences a person's life.
A peaceful home supports emotional wellness.
A blessed home supports spiritual wellness.
A harmonious home supports mental wellness.
And a healthy environment creates fertile ground for prosperity, abundance, and meaningful relationships.
Sometimes the next step in healing is not another remedy, another amulet, or another spiritual tool.
Sometimes the next step is healing the space where you spend your life every day.
