There's something special about preparing a traditional homemade dessert using just a handful of simple ingredients.

This rich and creamy custard is made with fresh eggs, heavy cream, pure vanilla extract, and just a touch of cane sugar.

Lightly sweetened and wonderfully satisfying, it's a reminder that good food doesn't need to be complicated.

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs, room temperature

  • 2 pints of heavy cream

  • 2 tablespoons of cane sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract

  • Butter for greasing the ramekins

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Lightly grease the ramekin dishes.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, cane sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. Bring enough water to a boil to fill a large baking dish to a depth of approximately 1 inch once the ramekins are placed inside.

  5. Arrange the filled ramekin dishes inside the larger baking dish.

  6. Carefully pour the hot water into the baking dish, surrounding the ramekins.

  7. Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges with a slight jiggle in the centre.

  8. Enjoy warm, or allow to cool, cover, and refrigerate.

Optional Serving Suggestion

Drizzle with a little maple syrup for added sweetness.

Note: If heavy cream is unavailable, I use whipping cream with 35% milk fat (MF).

A little old-fashioned goodness from my kitchen to yours. 🌿
