Time and eternity

Time and eternity

May 23, 2025

Last week I went a walk along a route known in our family as 'mum's walk'. It was a beautiful spring morning, the trees were a luscious green and the Campsie Hills were gorgeous in the distance.

I thought about all the times we'd walked that walk in the past, and how we wouldn't be doing it many more times, as my parents are planning to move cities. I thought about time, how what happens in the past makes us sad or regretful, and what might happen in the future makes us anxious or fearful.

I wondered if our inability to function well in time was actually evidence that we were made for eternity. I wondered if our make-up as eternal beings is why mindfulness is so good for us. Maybe living in the present, in the eternal now, is our natural habitat.
