I am a great (terrible?) starter-and-not-quite-finisher of notebooks. The result is a pile of notebooks dating back almost 50 years (see photo below). I have hundreds of letters from me to my parents, too, written between 1987, when I left home, and 2008, when we started emailing. My parents kept them all these years and have now returned them to me. This means I have an incredibly detailed if rather mundane record of much of my life. Have no fear. I have no intention of inflicting 99.9% of that on you. The 0.1% however...
Because every so often in these notebooks and letters I wrote words that still resonate. They do the job of the written word: vividly recreating the otherwise long-forgotten past. Some words stand alone as little poems. And some others I have put together in as cento poems, poems made up of lines of other works like a patchwork of words.
So that is what this Pilgrim series will be: 52 extracts of my life, in roughly chronological order, with brief introductions if necessary.
I hope they resonate with you, too.
To follow the Pilgrim series, become a member for as little as £2 a month, or buy me a coffee (or a share in a new bath!) for £4.
