Freeze Dried Meat And Cheese Snacks

Freeze Dried Meat And Cheese Snacks

Sep 25, 2026

We have made meat & cheese rolls a variety of ways - some with just meat & cheese and some with fresh basil leaves included - amazing! imageWhen you're eating lower-sugar, lower-carb it's often hard to find crispy crunchy snack foods. You can't eat regular snacks like pretzels, potato chips, popcorn, or crackers. Being able to freeze dry our own snack foods has been a game-changer for our Family!imageFreeze Drying Tips: We take various lunch and deli meats, and roll them up with thin strips of different cheeses. We also cut them into bite-sized pieces after rolling them up.

We use a small Stainless Steel Spatula to cut the rolls. This saves time because you can lay the rolls whole onto trays after you make them, then cut - instead of cutting first and then spending more time moving over all those smaller pieces to the trays.
imageOnce FD, they will be very dry and salty so be sure to drink water as you snack, just as you would with other salty snacks like popcorn, nuts, or chips. Bite-sized pieces are easier to eat compared to larger pieces since they don't dry out your mouth like larger pieces can. They're also less messy to eat since you can just pop them into your mouth instead of biting into larger pieces that can create a lot of crumbs.

We made some turkey & cheese rolls with fresh basil leaves and they were popping with flavor! You can also sprinkle the meat slices with your favorite seasonings - the combinations are up to you so have fun experimenting.imageI also really liked the roast beef & pepper jack cheese bites a lot. I stored them in vacuum sealed jars with OAs until it was time to take them out for traveling.

We have Electric Mason Jar Sealer Kits (for Wide-mouth and Regular-mouth jars) that we like to use. Having one upstairs and downstairs makes things easier as we're opening and then resealing various jars in our pantry and FD area throughout the week. Also, if one breaks we still have a spare to use until the replacement arrives. If you have hand or wrist pain, and don't like having to twist the adapter piece on and off, then consider using this Dual-Head Auto-Stop Mason Sealer instead - it has dedicated ends for both regular and wide mouth lids and doesn't require an adapter piece.imageWe've used zip bags or Airtight Containers for temp-storage purposes to toss them into a purse or backpack for the day - so great.

If you just need one or two Airtight Containers then check these out. They fit very well in a purse, backpack, or carry-on bag for times when you're on the go. They're great for Care Packages too!
12 oz container (1.5 cup, 3.9"wide x 3" tall)

44 oz container (5.5 cup, 4.5" wide x 7" tall)
imageHave fun making some - be sure to experiment with various meat & cheese combinations and also use some herbs to see what you like best!imageWe believe in Collaboration. Let's all help and support each other to become more Confident Freeze Dryers.
