So last year i had a project running with a friend of mine who ownes a 3d printing shop here in Malaysia. We wanted to make something that I can share the STL for free and sell electronic kits for the projects. One of those project that I made was a R2D2 water dispenser.
So i would share the R2D2 stl files free on makerworld and then sell a kit that includes the electronics and motor pump for it.. the files are all printed seperately by color.. you have 3 options for the water tank.. you can go mobile by using a water bladder bag - 2L.. or ikea's glass jar - 3L.. but static in place if direct from a mineral water bottle - 6L..
It'll takes around 2.5kg rolls of white filament.. 0.5kg of silver/grey filament.. and about 100g of blue filament.. I made mine using PETG for durability.. and coated the whole R2D2 with UV clear coat spray.. several layers of it.. for UV protection and water resistance..
Last month.. i started to share a video of the R2D2 water dispenser on Youtube and Instagam.. It got great reviews and response of people wanting to buy it.. either from makers who wants to make one or people who wants one as well.. it had almost 130k views on instagam alone..
So the response is great.. and for my commercial license subscribers.. you can sell them too.. but you will still need to buy the kit from me.. i'm thinking of sharing a listing of my subscribers who will be selling them.. so anyone who wants to buy one would have options of where to get them.. so if you'd think you would want to sell them.. you can start planning on it now..
The reason i'm not selling them myself is because of shipping & logistics.. the dispenser is 50cm tall.. the shipping cost is going to be insane if shipped from here.. but I will be selling them locally at my friend's 3d printing shop.. but that is for local Malaysian market only..
Currently we're trying to finalize the kit production and logistics for it.. so we can put a pricetag on the kit.. and i'm also going to make a making of video for the project.. you can watch the intro video for the R2D2 water dispenser here..
