Epilepsy is recognized every November with a purple ribbon color.
After learning about a rare form of epilepsy called sunflower syndrome- which is triggered by light, I chose to use sunflowers to represent epilepsy. The purple ribbon color is used in the shadows. White lilies symbolize hope.
If someone is having a seizure, the most important thing you can do to help is to make sure that they don't hurt themselves during the seizure. Don't hold them down, don't put anything into their mouth. Do make sure they are safe by easing them to the ground if they are in a chair and could fall. Lay them on their side so their airway stays safe and open. Call 911 if needed. Some people live with seizures and may already take medication for it.
Not every seizure is going to look like the ones on television. Absent seizures, for example, may make the person look like they have just started daydreaming for a minute.
