Nestled in the heart of the Abruzzo region, with its rolling hills adorned with vineyards and olive groves, lies the picturesque town of Crecchio. Home to a cozy population of 2,608 residents and perched 209 meters above sea level, this charming municipality offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and culinary delights.

The town's historic center is a testament to its rich history, with the iconic De Riseis-D'Aragona Castle reigning over it. This majestic castle, transformed over centuries from a defensive fortification to a residential marvel, now houses the Archaeological Museum of Byzantine and Early Medieval Abruzzo.

Crecchio's history unfolds like a captivating novel, from its ancient roots as Ok(r)ikam in the 6th century BC to its Roman incarnation as Ocricum. It served as a stronghold for the Frentani people guarding the border with the Marrucini. The town's name, however, may simply stem from the Latin word "ocriculum," meaning "small hill".
