I visited Croatia with my mom on her 61st birthday and did a vlog for you guys:)

When I arrived at the Makarska Riviera in Croatia, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing: Makarska is so similar to Crimea! You can see it in the video

The steep limestone mountains, pine trees reaching almost to the sea, crystal-clear water, stone villages, and rocky beaches instantly reminded me of the southern coast of Crimea around Yalta and Alushta.

Just Google photos of both places-you’ll see why so many people notice the resemblance. For many Ukrainians who visited Crimea before 2014, this landscape brings back powerful memories. Seeing these pine-covered mountains above the Adriatic felt like I had traveled 30 years back to my childhood summer camp in Yalta.

The memories are both beautiful and painful. Crimea remains under Russian occupation, and many people who opposed the occupation were forced to leave their homes. That is why this breathtaking Croatian coastline became much more than just another holiday destination for me-it reminded me of a place I loved and hope will one day be free again.
