Hello, Everybody.
It's been quite a summer for us. Mostly good stuff, thankfully. Including a move. Here's that story:
As y'all know, we've been living with my parents since 2017. It's been very good but it's time for change. Mostly because Liz wants and needs to get back to public school.
So, last Winter my therapist suggested I apply for government help for housing. In January, I saw that the Murfreesboro Housing Authority had open enrollment for Housing Choice Vouchers. I applied. By March, I'd received word that I was on the waiting list. By April, I was interviewing and completing extensive paperwork. I received word that I was approved.
The HCV enabled me to find our own house or apartment so long as the owner/manager took Section 8 and the rent fell within the limits the Housing Authority set, which is pretty close to fair market value.
I was so discouraged the first couple of days...I called nearly every housing management company and apartment complex on the MHA list. No answers; I left messages that went unreturned. Nothing available by August, when Liz will start Tenth Grade. Nothing in our price range. No 3 bedrooms. On and on. Rejection. Frustration.
The next week I finished where I left off with the list. only this time was different. The manager of the first apartment complex I called answered. She said yes, they had a 3BR available. Yes, for August 1 (school starts August 7). Yes, it's even downstairs. BONUS!!! And in the price range. And income based.
I talked with my girls. We decided to apply. We paid the application fee. And now here we are...less than a month away from our move-in date! We are waiting for the current residents to vacate. Then the apartment complex paints and fixes anything necessary. Then the MHA inspects. We will be invited to see our new apartment sometime during the last week of July.
We are excited to be going back to RuCo. It's where we work and play. It'll be so good and much more convenient to live there.
