Writing for social media has ruined me for long form writing. Two normal paragraphs is like writing a novel on Facebook or Instagram. Those two paragraphs better contain a lot of important and entertaining information if you want people to stay with you that long. Already some of you are reaching the TLDR limit on this post!
When I decided to start a blog as part of my website, I read that Google favors blogs with more long form content. Long as in around two thousand words! That’s a little over two pages in a Google Doc with a single space 11 point Ariel font. I can see the raised eyebrow on my ninth grade English teacher’s face now. His most memorable piece of advice was to not be wordy. I wonder if he’d love hearing that or hate it?
Either way, his advice was very good for a group of young people headed into the jaws of social media. Defying one algorithm in the hopes of pleasing another, I have written another blog post. It isn’t two thousand words but it contains some really important ones if you want to impress your friends with your knowledge of pre-industrial revolution methods of making cloth.
