Bring the energy of the FIFA World Cup into your elementary music classroom with these free manipulatives for my “Seven Nation Army” solfa and rhythm play-along!
The familiar seven-note riff is an engaging way for students to practice singing and performing:
la – la – do′ – la – sol – fa – mi
The manipulatives include visual support for:
- Singing and reading the solfa pattern
- Practicing and performing the rhythms
- Following the accompanying play-along video
- Learning fun facts about the song’s connection to soccer
- Exploring the historic FIFA World Cup Final Halftime performance featuring Gustavo Dudamel, musicians from the New York Philharmonic and Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, Iranian violinist Bijan Mortazavi, and The Muppets’ Electric Mayhem
Students can sing, clap, perform the rhythms with body percussion, or transfer the parts to classroom percussion instruments. You can also use the fun facts to begin conversations about timbre, music technology, orchestras, soccer/football chants, and how a short melody can become known around the world.
