Tea Prep 🫖

Apr 20, 2025

Let’s gear up for the week! I put together a blend with marshmallow leaf, self-heal, linden, and tulsi with the goals of modulating my body’s response to stress along with some nourishing, demulcent support. That’s my daily quart o’ tea, plus I’m really enjoying some cold brewed hibiscus and green tea as a fun cold beverage! My friend Kelly shared that idea, and it’s DELICIOUS.

Marshmallow (Althea officinalis) leaf - it’s a gentle demulcent (aka moistening) herb. The flavor is pretty mild, a little sweet, and it’s a bit cooling so it’s a great fit for me.

Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) flowering tops - one of my favorite vulnerary (wound healing) herbs, with some lymphatic support as well. This one’s hard to find commercially; take a look to see if it’s growing in your yard. 😉

Linden (Tilia spp.) leaf and flower - lovely friend for soothing that frazzled feeling with some nourishing demulcent support. This is easy to purchase, and many cities have linden trees all over the place if you want to try to find some!

Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) leaf - probably my desert island herb. Uplifting, adaptogenic, kind of baking spicy-flavored, with a host of benefits throughout the body.

Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyx - even when you see dried hibiscus “flower” for sale, it’s probably the calyx of the flower. Hibiscus is packed with antioxidants, is cooling, and a bit diuretic. We go through A LOT of hibiscus at home!

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) leaf - this is the same plant that produces black, white, oolong, yellow (and a few more) teas that you may be familiar with. The difference is made in the ways it’s processed! It’s a bit astringent, and I just enjoy the taste, especially in a cold brew.

I hope you do something herby today, too! 💚🍃
