At the prestigious Woodland Gnome Academy, nestled in a forgotten sequoia hollow, Spruce studied garden enchantments under Master Thimbletwig. His classmates found him peculiar — he spoke to seedlings as if they understood, and stranger still, they seemed to respond by growing toward his voice.
Following his graduation with the highest honors, Spruce ventured into the untamed borderlands where humans, fairies, and gnomes converged that few gnomes dared to venture.
The Fairy Queen’s beloved Moonlight Rosebush, which bloomed once every century, was withering in spite of the efforts of her royal gardeners during the Great Drought, when streams dried up and the forest floor crackled beneath her feet. Desperate, she called upon Spruce, whose fame had spread to her court, which was draped in gossamer.
