This upright piano is 119 years old, made by an now-obsolete manufacturer called the Belford Piano Company. It belongs to some relatives of mine, and I always enjoyed playing it during visits. I loved the tone and decided to sample it. Initially I thought it would be a simple project, but as I got into it I was really enjoying the piano's personality and decided to go further. I began scripting a UI and went all in - tweaking the samples to get them just right.
This instrument has:
- 3 dynamic levels
- Release samples (so it rings out a little when you lift up)
- Controllable velocity curve (you can get super punchy with it, or dial in the "soft piano" sound)
- Quick reverb and compression controls
- Adjustable pedal and release noises
- A preset system
