It's the 2nd Sherwood Forest day today - 20th Feb 2026 https://sherwoodforest.org.uk/projects/sherwood-forest-day/ Only found out about this this morning so little Robin and I trundled along at the last minute to a local event at the Bestwood Country Park - an ancient deer park not too far away from our home and right next to where I lived as a wee baby.
The small gathering was held at the Dynamo Cafe (by an old colliery winding engine). There was a reading of a proclamation declaring the ancient forest of Sherwood as a "national treasure", just as it should be.

After they were done I asked if they'd like an impromptu song about a tree (of course it had to be this one, though I sung it somewhat better than in this video!) I often forget my words in the moment but luckily did not today!

It's actually a council run event and I still maintain that we all need to be outlaws, like in the days of yore. Here is one of the MOST magnificent oak trees which was part of another deer park within the city - Wollaton Park (the hall was used in the batman film). All once part of Sherwood forest.
