LA Is Worth Saving (Gotham West) – The Story Behind the Song

In January 2025, the Palisades and Eaton Fires carved a scar across Los Angeles: over 16,000 structures gone, 31 people dead, and thousands still displaced a year later. Among them was Spencer Pratt, ex–“The Hills” villain turned trailer‑dwelling Angeleno standing in the ashes of his old life, looking into a camera and saying, “This is where I live now.” [user content]

The “recovery” that followed wasn’t just slow; it was deliberately, bureaucratically cruel. Fewer than ten homes were rebuilt in the first year while families like Derrick and Shirley Collins were ticketed for living in trailers on their own burned‑out lots. At the same time, California could move heaven and earth for pet projects, ideological crusades, and symbolic gestures—new pronouns, new flags, and endless process—while telling fire victims there wasn’t enough time or money to give them a roof. Then came the political grenade: filmmaker Charles Curran’s viral AI spot turning Pratt into a Gotham‑style crusader, Mayor Karen Bass as the Joker, Gavin Newsom eating cake, and Kamala Harris as a distant queen. It was dark, funny, and, more importantly, true enough to cut through the official narrative. That ad inspired my track, “LA Is Worth Saving (Gotham West),” which turns the rage of a man in a trailer into a soundtrack for a city that’s finally seeing how badly it has been sold out. I built this song the way I build all of Earth’s Lost History: as a fusion of history, pattern recognition, and music. The lyrics decode how empires spend billions on spectacle and control while leaving their own citizens in tents, tickets in hand, standing on charred foundations. LA is worth saving—but not by the people who let it burn, then ticketed the survivors for existing in the rubble. [user content]

If you want more pieces like this—songs that come with full breakdowns, receipts, and context that AI and Wikipedia won’t give you—your support here helps me keep doing the work. Every coffee fuels the research, production time, and mixing that turn these stories into tracks and media packs instead of just rage threads that disappear in the scroll.
