The Mongols in Hungary -the Aranymonosor Series

The Mongols in Hungary- The Aranymonosor series;

A small, axe-shaped Viking pendant from the soil of Bugac. Its wearer most likely came from very far away. It also suggests much about the role of Pétermonostora in the 11th century in the history of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary.

At this time, Christianity replaces pagan religious customs, and thanks to this process, Hungary becomes an integral part of Christian Europe, and soon one of its leading powers.

It is known that at this time, the peoples of Scandinavia, collectively known as the Vikings, performed military service as mercenaries in numerous royal courts of Europe. They were among the bodyguards of the Byzantine emperor, just as they were present at the most significant event of contemporary England, the Battle of Hastings.

References to the Scandinavian, Varangian-origin Rus also appear in Hungarian sources: Saint Stephen's son, Prince Saint Emeric, is referred to by the chronicles as dux Ruizorum, in Hungarian, the prince of the Rus.

The memory of this early period is the axe-shaped pendant found at Bugac, modeled after bearded battle axes with a shaft support, and perhaps a saw-shaped amulet as well.

In the domestic find material, this distinctively shaped find type is rare. In Northern and Eastern Europe, in the Baltic region, as well as in the territory of medieval Rus and present-day Poland, however, it is well known.

It is not clear whether it was worn with a small shaft or with a suspension loop threaded through the socket, but it is very likely that it once belonged to a member of a people different from the Hungarians.
