HPI:
Male, 68-year-old with recent right total knee arthroplasty (POD#3) presented after a mechanical fall in the bathroom. Patient tripped and fell while walking, according to EMS, injuring operative knee. Wife called 911 and used an ACE wrap.
Pre-Hospital and Initial Assessment:
History provided by nursing staff; patient corroborated. Described tripping while walking, with sudden knee pain and swelling.
Surgical History:
Uneventful Right TKA 3 days ago. Postoperative course uneventful until the fall.
Exam and Management:
On removal of the bandage, the incision showed evidence suspicious of dehiscence and possible contamination. Irrigation and cleaning of the wound was performed. Antibiotics were initiated. The orthopedic team was paged for additional evaluation and management.
