Where Are You Taking God?

Jun 02, 2025

Introduction

God is not part-time. He doesn’t clock in on Sundays and check out during our secret sins. His presence is constant. His Spirit indwells every believer, not just in the quiet prayer room, but also in the loud, messy, and morally murky moments. He does not get left at the church door or ignored during our detours. We are His. Bought, sealed, indwelt. That truth is beautiful—but also weighty. Because it means this: wherever we go, we take God with us. Into conversations, into attitudes, into situations we know we shouldn’t be in. He is there. This isn’t meant to shame you. It’s meant to call you to the reality of the divine completeness of God’s love. Let’s walk through the scriptures and face this reality—not vaguely, but with clarity and conviction, based on the Word of God.

Now Let’s Eat Some Meat!

God Is in You – 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (AMPC)

“Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.”

You are not a rental. You are a dwelling place. A temple—not empty, not symbolic. A real home for a real Spirit. And that Spirit is the Spirit of God! Let that sink in! Every room in your life is now inhabited. That includes the places you think are hidden. The browser history. The private messages. The unhealthy environments, and places. The drug houses. The adulter’s house. The hotel you shouldn't be at! The Holy Spirit doesn’t leave when you enter them. He enters with you. Modern believers often speak of freedom, and rightly so. But freedom does not mean separation. You were bought. You are not your own. Ownership has changed. So now, every step, every scene, every act—is shared. Not metaphorically, but literally. Another reason God is with you where you shouldn't be is because He loves you and is there to protect you, it’s part of His grace! Be careful not to misuse His Grace.

Christ Is Joined to You – 1 Corinthians 6:15 (AMPC)

“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ (the Messiah)? Am I therefore to take the parts of Christ and make [them] parts of a prostitute? Never! Never!

This is blunt. Paul didn’t sugarcoat it. He posed a scenario that should shake us. He’s not addressing unbelievers here. He’s speaking to the saved. To those who already know Jesus. To those who should know better. Every believer is part of Christ’s body. That’s not poetic language—it’s union. So when we sin, it’s not just rebellion, it’s betrayal. Read that again,  when we sin, it’s not just rebellion, it’s betrayal. Not just bad behavior, but an inappropriate joining. Paul’s example is sexual sin, but the principle stands in any setting: gossip, anger, dishonesty, addiction, adultery. Wherever you go, Jesus is not just aware—He is attached, and with you!

God’s Spirit Does Not Abandon – Psalm 139:7–10 (AMPC)

“Where could I go from Your Spirit? Or where could I flee from Your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol (the place of the dead), behold, You are there.  If I take the wings of the morning or dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.”

David knew this truth early. You can’t outrun God. You can’t sneak around His presence. He is not local—He is limitless. And even in our darkest descent, He is not leaving. That might seem comforting—and it is. But it’s also corrective. He’s not watching from afar. He’s holding you. Which means even in the pit, the club, the compromised situation—He is holding a hand you’re not supposed to be forcing into those places.

God's Spirit Grieves – Ephesians 4:30 (AMPC)

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God’s own, secured) for the day of redemption [of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin].”

You cannot grieve what is not close. You cannot sadden what is disconnected. The Spirit of God is in you, and when you sin—He feels it. That’s not guilt-tripping. That’s intimacy. He is not a cold force. He is a holy person. He doesn’t only speak—He feels. He mourns when you twist truth. He aches when you chase sin. Not because He’s fragile, but because He’s near. Because He cares.

God Calls You to Righteous Living – 1 John 3:7 (AMPC)

“Little children (believers, dear ones), let no one lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous.”

You can’t separate belief from behavior. John says don’t be deceived. You cannot claim righteousness while dragging Jesus into unrighteous habits. This doesn’t mean perfection—it means practice. Your pattern matters. Your lifestyle reflects your lordship. If He is in you, it should show. If you are aware of His presence, it should affect your path.

Cross-Referenced Assurance

Galatians 2:20 (AMPC)

“I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

You’re not living alone. It’s not just you anymore. He lives in you.

Romans 8:9 (AMPC)

“But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God].”

Ownership comes with indwelling. And indwelling means responsibility.

Colossians 3:17 (AMPC)

“And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.”

Everything means everything. If you don’t think you should take Jesus into it, don’t go in. If you don’t think you should do it with Jesus, don’t do it! If you know it’s something Jesus won't help you with, don't do it!

Applications for Modern Faith

Before Going Anywhere, Ask Who You're Bringing With You Before entering a space—whether physical or digital—pause. Say aloud: “God, am I taking You into a place You want to be?” Practice that pause.

Use Scripture as a Checkpoint

Quote 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.” (AMPC) each morning. Write it on your mirror. Let it remind you: You’re not your own. Your body is a sanctuary.

Don’t Just Feel Bad—Make It Right

When you know you’ve taken God where He should not be—stop and speak Ephesians 4:30, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin)”, (AMPC).  Say: “Holy Spirit, I know I grieve You. Please forgive me. Let’s walk out of this together.”

Redirect, Don’t Just Regret

Instead of hiding in shame, return to righteousness. Quote 1 John 3:7, “Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous” (AMPC). Commit or Recommit, if necessary. Righteousness is not a title—it’s a walk.

Teach This to Others Without Apology

Don’t shy away from saying this truth plainly in discipleship, parenting, or preaching. Love brings clarity. Clarity brings change.

Summary

These scriptures cut through spiritual complacency. This is not a theological theory—it’s a daily reality.1 Corinthians 6:19–20 makes it clear: you are a temple, God’s temple, where His Holy Spirit resides. You are not a visitor center to God. You are not a rental unit. God’s Spirit lives in you permanently. 1 Corinthians 6:15 deepens it—your body is a part of Christ. Union with Him means everything you do, you do it joined to Him. Psalm 139:7–10 confirms what we already know but often forget: God is everywhere. Even when we wish He wasn’t. He’s not just a guest on Sundays—He’s a constant companion. That means you take Him with you into every room, every choice, every hidden corner. And Ephesians 4:30 reminds us He feels. He is not untouched by what we do. He is not casual about where we go. He grieves—because He is invested. Because He is in you. 1 John 3:7 ties it together: righteousness is not just about what you avoid, but what you pursue. It's about living with full awareness that you are not alone. Believers today need this clarity. We are temples, not tourists. We are carriers, not spectators. We are joined to Christ, and that changes how we walk, where we walk, and who we walk with.

So ask yourself daily:  Where am I taking God today? Let your answer shape your steps, today, tomorrow, & forevermore.
