Stop Asking God to Fix Around You When Your Heart Needs Fixing

Real Repentance Does Not Just Ask God to Change the Situation - It Asks God to Change You

Before I start, I suggest everyone check out the deeper teaching, if you pick just one long writing of mine to read let it be this one….link at the end of this short! This is the writing tht God told me to stop and do it His way, write a deeper study!

David had sinned, he had failed God. And when he finally came face-to-face with the condition of his own heart, he did not merely ask God to remove the consequences, silence the accusations, repair his reputation, or make him feel better.

He asked God to work on HIM!

Psalm 51:10 AMPC “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.”

That is the cry and passion of genuine repentance!

David understood something many believers still resist today. Sometimes the greatest problem is not what is happening around you, sometimes the problem is what has been happening within you.

We are quick to pray, “God, change them!” “God, fix this!” “God, remove this!” and “God, deliver me from this situation!”

Yet when was the last time you fell before God and prayed, “Lord, CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART!”

Not polish my image, not protect my reputation, not make everybody understand my side.

CHANGE ME!

David did not ask God to make his heart look clean. He asked God to create a clean heart within him. That means repentance must go deeper than tears, guilt, embarrassment, apologies, or regret over consequences.

You can be sorry that you got caught and still not be sorry enough to change.

A believer cannot continually protect the very attitude, appetite, bitterness, pride, lust, unforgiveness, rebellion, dishonesty, or secret compromise that he or she is asking God to cleanse!

And notice David did not stop with a clean heart, he continued on asking God to, “…and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.”

He was asking God for more than a moment of emotional remorse.

He wanted a spirit that could STAY RIGHT!

Beloved, we today need that same prayer.

“God, do not merely get me through another failure, change what keeps pulling me back toward it.”

“Do not merely forgive what I did, show me what is living inside me that made me willing to do it.”

That is where transformation begins.

Stop spending all your prayer time asking God to change your circumstances while refusing to let Him confront your character.

Often, the breakthrough you desperately need is not God changing what is around you.

It is God changing what is within you!

Question For Today

Are you truly asking God to create a clean heart within you, or are you asking Him to clean up the consequences while you protect the very heart condition that helped create them?

If You Have Ears To Hear, Then Hear It!
