Now Let’s Eat Some Meat!~

Romans 8:1 (AMPC) "Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit."

The Context of Romans 8:1

In the preceding chapters, Paul discusses humanity's struggle with sin and the limitations of the Law. He highlights the internal conflict between the desire to do good and the reality of sinful tendencies. This culminates in the exclamation of deliverance through Jesus Christ. Romans 8:1 serves as a triumphant declaration that, through Christ, believers are no longer subject to condemnation. This freedom is not a license to sin but a call to live according to the Spirit. For today's believers, this context underscores the transformative power of life in the Spirit.

Relevance to Today's Believers

Romans 8:1 offers assurance and guidance for Christians navigating the complexities of modern life. It reminds us that, despite our shortcomings, condemnation has been lifted through Christ. This liberation calls for a life led by the Spirit, moving away from fleshly desires. In a world filled with temptations and moral challenges, this scripture encourages believers to rely on the Spirit's strength. It emphasizes that true freedom is found in spiritual obedience. For today's Christians, this verse serves as both comfort and a call to action.

Supporting Scriptures

John 3:18 (AMPC) "He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation—he incurs no damnation]; but he who does not believe (cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already [he has already been convicted and has already received his sentence] because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God." Belief in Christ removes judgment and condemnation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMPC) "Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!" Union with Christ results in a transformed life.

Galatians 5:16 (AMPC) "But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God)." Living by the Spirit prevents fulfillment of sinful desires.

Colossians 2:13-14 (AMPC) "And you, who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions, Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us [hostile to us]. This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross." Christ's sacrifice removed the legal charges against us.

Romans 8:2 (AMPC) "For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death."

The Spirit's law liberates from sin and death.
