FAFO - Let Them Find Out What the Love of Christ Looks Like!
When the World Says “You Deserve What You Got,” the Body of Christ Should Be Saying, “You Are Still Worthy of Love!”
There is an acronym circulating throughout social media - FAFO! It is frequently directed toward people who voted for Donald Trump and are now suffering under policies they once supported.
For many, it has become a way of saying, “You voted for it! Now suffer the consequences!”
And I have a question for the Body of Christ, SINCE WHEN DID ANOTHER PERSON'S SUFFERING BECOME SOMETHING FOR BELIEVERS TO CELEBRATE?
Let me make something absolutely clear! I am not suggesting that people should be shielded from accountability for their decisions. Elections have consequences, choices have consequences, and yes, sometimes people must experience the consequences of what they supported.
However, their suffering is NEVER our permission to abandon the commandments of Jesus Christ!
The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
Beloved, when someone who once supported policies that harmed others now finds themselves suffering, will they encounter the love of Christ in us, or will they encounter the same hatred and contempt they may have shown others?
Jesus said in John 13:35 (AMPC), “By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].”
And in Matthew 5:44, Jesus commands us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. In no uncertain terms, that scripture commands, “But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.’
Notice something! Jesus never made political agreement a prerequisite for Christian love!
Not Republican! Not Democrat! Not Black! Not White! Not wealthy! Not poor!
THE LOVE OF CHRIST DOES NOT COME WITH A VOTER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT!
And to those who have been convinced by political rhetoric that people who look different, vote differently, or live differently are automatically their enemies, hear me clearly - WE ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY!
We may disagree with your politics. We may strongly oppose policies that harm our neighbors. We will speak against injustice wherever we find it. And we can do all of that while still loving you as someone Christ died to save!
So perhaps it is time for the Body of Christ to give FAFO an entirely different meaning;
FAFO - FIND AND FEEL OUT!
Find out who Jesus Christ really is, and feel His love demonstrated through those who genuinely follow Him!
When they are hungry, let them find food through our compassion. When they are hurting, let them find comfort through our presence. When they are afraid, let them find someone willing to pray with them. And when they expect hatred, LET THEM FIND THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST!
And do not misunderstand me! Christian love does not require silence in the face of injustice, nor does forgiveness eliminate accountability.
It means we refuse to become the very darkness we claim to oppose!
A Call to Repentance
Beloved, if you are laughing at another person's suffering simply because they voted differently than you, YOU NEED TO EXAMINE YOUR HEART!
You cannot claim to represent the Savior who prayed for those crucifying Him while celebrating the suffering of people you consider your political enemies!
STOP CONFUSING POLITICAL VICTORY WITH SPIRITUAL MATURITY!
We are called to make disciples of Jesus Christ, not enemies of everyone who disagrees with us!
Let the world keep its ridicule, let the politicians keep their divisions, however let the Body of Christ demonstrate a love that refuses to surrender to either!
Question For Today
When someone whose politics you despise begins suffering from the very policies they supported, will you celebrate their pain and say “FAFO,” or will you demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ so powerfully that they FINALLY FIND OUT WHO HE REALLY IS?
