The unconscious, according to Jung, is compensatory to our conscious mind. This means that if someone is an outgoing extroverted person then they will have an introverted inner world. If they are into art and colour then they may have drab or black and white dreams. If they live a dull boring life then they may have vast Technicolour dreams. The dream world shows the untapped potential, it is an undeveloped side that if taken seriously can be developed and help you achieve a more rounded personality. This also means that your own dreams can be harder to understand than someone else’s dreams because your own dreams are showing the side of you that is farthest from your developed conscious side. And it is your consciousness, your most developed side that you use to understand and make sense of the world.
