When the story wears out inside you…

When the story wears out inside you…

Feb 22, 2025

There comes a point when we no longer want to carry it forward. Not as a conscious decision, not because we “let it go,” but because we simply grow tired of it inside.

A feeling, a relationship, a thought, a habit… It has been there, resurfacing again and again, affecting us. But one day, we notice: it no longer triggers anything.

The process of saturation

Every repeating pattern has a limit. A point where it no longer gives us anything new—just keeps repeating itself. Like a song we’ve heard too many times or a dessert that’s become too sweet. At some point, we simply stop craving it.

What does it mean to notice this?

We don’t have to fight it, we don’t have to “let it go,” we don’t have to explain it. We just notice: it no longer affects us. Not because we suppressed it, but because it has lost its meaning.

Nietzsche said: “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that he does not become a monster.”

As long as we fight, we remain tied to it. But when something loses its power within us, there is nothing left to put down.

And that’s when the shift happens. Not as a decision, not as an effort—but as an internal transition. As if a door quietly closes behind us, and suddenly, it’s clear: we don’t need to deal with it anymore.

This is what happens in love affairs and addictions, too.

We stay as long as it still gives us something—excitement, passion, pain, hope. But eventually, the moment comes when it simply wears out inside us. No more questions, no more waiting, no more illusions.

And that is true letting go.

We don’t leave someone when we decide to—we leave when there’s nothing left to want from them.

What in your life has worn out?
