From Neglect to Grace: The Story Behind Confessions The Single

Nov 04, 2024

image"Confessions" began with a simple, unexpected inspiration: a glimpse into my own backyard. There, the overgrown weeds stirred a deeper reflection, one that shifted from the physical neglect of a garden to the unattended areas of my life—‘of reckless deeds and a heart of stone’—moments I'd failed to address.

That image of the backyard, overgrown and untended, mirrored the state of my own soul in ways I hadn’t fully considered until that moment. It was as if God, in His love for humanity, granted me this gift of conscience, reminding me that I could, and should, take steps to amend my ways.

This moment of awakening became the foundation of "Confessions," a song that calls us to be true to ‘cast our nets on the other side’, to seek the love and mercy of the Most High who never intended destruction for His creation, "For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them" (Luk 9:56 KJV).

Musically, producer, Sefton Simpson, gave "Confessions" the timeless feel of a traditional reggae vibe, driven by a strong bassline, rim shot and foot drum in the inimitable one drop style, with the classic skanking guitar and piano.

The harmonies atop a soft organ open the track with a heartfelt tone, creating an atmosphere of vulnerability that welcomes listeners into a space of honesty and reflection. Synth horns add texture, while the song’s simplicity allows the message to come through clearly—this is not just a beat but a call to the heart.

When I released "Confessions," the reception moved me. Listeners from as far as Nigeria reached out, with one telling me the song’s truthfulness and relatability deeply impacted him. Here in Manchester, a brother stopped me on the street to share how hearing it on the radio for the first time stirred something deep within him.

To this day, "Confessions" has been my most streamed track, a testament to how much people need and resonate with its message. Confessions is available on all digital platforms. Why not add it to your playlist for all time. Get it from my Bandcamp here.
