Last night I spent some time on my watercolor practice inspired by the November 1948 Saturday Evening Post cover art “grocery line” by illustration artist Stevan Dohanos (1907-1994).
With bad weather on the way here in NC, it’s natural to have food preparations on the brain.
After spending the day in the kitchen on meal prep duty, it was so relaxing to sit and continue my work on this watercolor illustration.
I’ve been sporadically working on this piece for a few months. There is so much I am learning!
Fun Art History facts about Stevan:
The stalled shopper (back left) was inspired by famed journalist and war correspondent H.R. Knickerbocker.
Stevan created 123 covers for the Post during his career.
