Three years ago on 30th May 2020, the first episode of Def Lep Pod was released. At just over twenty minutes long, it was the story of Ride into the Sun, the first track on Def Leppard’s first ever release: The Def Leppard E.P. It seemed apt that the first ever episode of Def Lep Pod should be about the first song ever Def Leppard song heard on a record.
Fast forward thirty-six months and on the precipice of episode number sixty of Def Lep Pod, the most recent episode is about the most recent of Def Leppard events: two hometown shows at the Leadmill and Bramall Lane respectively. This is a band on the precipice of forty-six years of existence and as relevant as ever.
A podcast that was originally and by necessity a sole voice and designed to tell the existing story of Def Leppard in new ways using songs as a central theme, is now a podcast of many voices that not only tells stories of Def Leppard past but is able to document and discuss new Def Leppard chapters as they happen. This is a band where there will be a next time, time and time again.
For those of you interested in knowing more about the background of Def Lep Pod and how it all came about please play the audio. This is from an introductory video for people who buy Def Lep Pod a coffee or become a Gods of More members, to support the podcast via www.buymeacoffee.com/DefLepPod
This isn’t a proper podcast episode because, well, who wants to hear someone on a podcast talking about themselves?! It is with great embarrassment I post this! But just in case, it’s here…
This was recorded over a year ago and a lot has happened since this discussion between Paul and I, but it still gives a flavour of the origins and evolution of Def Lep Pod.
Finally, and just as a matter of record I’ve listed all episodes of Def Lep Pod from our first three years. Where did you join the party?
(Note: at the time of writing the Last Dance and Truth? Episodes are being ‘remastered’ and will be available again shortly).
Bonus episodes will be available throughout June and July and we’ll be back with season six in early August.
Thank you all for listening and for your support. It is massively appreciated.
Neil
