A local Facebook group event made me realize I'd want a 1/10th scale crawler or trail truck. Most of the members are on their 1/10th or 1/12th scale trucks, and only few of us are on the smaller 1/18th scale. This also means that the course are often catered to the bigger scales.
One reason I went for a smaller 1/18th scale is that it's much easier to fit into my backpack, along with the RadioMaster MT12 with its carry case.
Going into rocks, by myself, is still a lot of fun with this little beast. Per my earlier post, it is built with mostly Injora parts. Only the receiver (a RadioMaster ER5c-i) and the brushless ESC (Flycolor Francy 2 40a flashed to AM32), and of course the batteries, that aren't from Injora.
But as the saying goes, "Idleness is the devil's playground". It is the rainy season once again, and I'd be stuck at home without anything to break the monotony. I could work on the others but there's just not much to do on them. They are currently all in tip-top shape. What they need is a chance to be flown/run.
I could maybe start a 1/10 buggy/basher build like one of those vintage/re-released Tamiya or Kyosho buggies, but there's just not a place for them where I'm at. Even the drift car I built from two years ago don't get as much run time as I want.
So I gravitate towards a crawler/trail truck in the 1/10th scale as that will allow me to trail run with the group more often. And a lot of plans were already made for it the past months which I've narrowed down to a few things.
Injora has released their 1/10th version of the IR60 hard-body that I'm using on the 1/18th truck. Per some reviews, it's nearly perfect, but will require some work before it can fit into a third-party chassis.
There's also this Killerbody LC70 body that's got a lot of details and looks great. There's full interior, alternative cab and canopy add-ons.
There's also the Pro-Line SR5 body, but sourcing out one with all those bits (front-rear bumper and cab rollbar) is proving difficult.
As for the chassis base, there's the Axial Builder's Kit (AXI-2755) or the more premium Vanquish VS4-10 or VRD kits.
I'm not yet decided on the electronics, but will most likely go brushless as there's just so much control when using such a set up. I can go either an AM32-based or go into the 2-in-1 territory with a Fusion SE.
Now, the goal here is to have a good performing trail truck while also being capable of semi-hard rock-crawling while, of course, also looking cool and scale or realistic. I'm still into saving up for the funds to get this project started. I could maybe start with the wheelset and/or body, but I'd like to first source out a chassis kit as that's one of the harder things to come by (importing from the US isn't that easy, so I'm dependent on the local distributors that are asking for some markup, which is kinda justified).
I'm planning to get a build video uploaded once I get into this project. Maybe a time-lapse or a multi-part series.
