The Ring of Doom is a high-damage enhancement accessory, often praised for its potential burst but often debated for its consistency.

Description

Whenever the wearer’s troop launches any type of basic attack; it has 10% chance to gain 50% bonus to damage dealt for 2 seconds. Can trigger up to 1 time every 5 seconds.

As most of the effect in game, Unstoppable Effect caused by the Ring applies on the next turn it was triggered.

Methodology

To assess the Ring’s efficiency, we ran 10,000-runs simulations across 20- and 30-second battle scenarios.
Each run modeled:

  • Rage Theoretical Model (probably not 100% accurate but by far the most common used)

  • Rage Requirement at 1000

  • Base rage accounted from attacking consistently

  • The Ring’s RNG behavior with its 10% trigger, duration, and cooldown

  • All rage talents

  • Skill Tree : Rejuvenate 3/3 and Feral Nature ; Support tree : Rejuvenate 3/3

What’s not included:

  • Rage consumed requirement

  • Base rage from counter attack

  • External source or reduction for rage

This analysis isolates the pure contribution of the accessory.

🔬Key Findings

General Results

  • Skill Tree: uptime ≈ 14%, with ~29% alignment between Ring activations and active skills (S1 or S2).

  • Support Tree: uptime ≈ 14%, with ~28% alignment.

  • Smite Tree (including Liu Che): uptime ≈ 14%, with ~27–28% alignment.

These results are extremely consistent across setups.

→ The average All Damage increase from the Ring of Doom sits around +6.9 % — 7.1 %.

Combo Pairings (Arthur / Achilles)

On commanders with combo attacks on multiple targets, the Ring performs far above baseline.

For Arthur / Achilles (without Butterfly), simulations show:

  • ≈ 17 % alignment with S1

  • 45 % alignment with S2
    → Resulting in an average All Damage increase up to ≈ 11.7 % — nearly double the standard value.

Synergy with Horn of Fury

Could Horn improve Ring performance by shortening the skill cycle?

Yes, but only slightly:

  • Across Skill, Support, Attack, and Smite trees, alignment rises to ~29–32 % at best — a marginal gain.

However, Horn contributes indirectly: by speeding the rage cycle, it increases overall DPS independently of the Ring.

On these trees, Horn shortens the first skill cycle by 1–2 turns with ≈ 66–87 % probability.

Comparison — Greatest Glory vs Ring of Doom (Smite)

From the same simulations:

  • A non-crit Ring generally outperforms a non-crit Greatest Glory.

  • A crit Greatest Glory performs roughly equal to a non-crit Ring.
    → In that case, the consistent crit Greatest Glory may be the safer, more predictable option.

DPS Considerations

Since accessories affecting the rage cycle don’t directly modify damage, we use DPS (damage per second) as a comparable metric, as it captures the effect of shorter rotations.

Approximate DPS improvements on a smite pairing:

  • Greatest Glory : 3,5-4%

  • Ring of Doom : 5-5,5%

  • Horn : 7%

Damage-bonus accessories (like Ring or GG) are subject to diminishing returns as total damage modifiers stack higher, while Horn’s cycle acceleration remains stable and reliable.

Tactical considerations: target switching

What is the main concern about the Ring ? If you’re performing frequent retargeting or back-and-forth maneuvers, you may occasionally break the Ring’s 2-turn window mid-activation.

On paper, that sounds pretty bad — cutting your burst window in half.

But how often does it actually happen? Did you ever go through a large pool of battle logs to look at this issue ? I went through a sample of battle logs to check, and honestly… I couldn’t find a single case where it occurred. Maybe it’s playstyle-dependent, maybe I was lucky — so let’s do some quick napkin maths for once.

The Ring triggers roughly once every 14 seconds. We’ve seen that around 30 % of those activations overlap an active skill. Losing one turn of basic attack damage isn’t really an issue — what we’d truly care about is losing that active skill alignment. That’s our probability if you disengage on the triggering turn. If you disengage mid-activation, since the Ring lasts 2 turns, the buff could land on the skill in either of those two turns, which cuts the “miss” risk in half.

So realistically, we’re worrying about something that has maybe a ~1-2 % probability per march wearing a Ring (except few exceptions)

Closing

The Ring of Doom remains one of the most effective burst accessories in Rise of Kingdoms: steady enough to deliver a ~7% average damage bonus, with an unpredictable behaviour. Despite recent criticism, Ring stays a strong and high-value accessory. As with most choices in this game, accessories are also about your playstyle and preference. Some players would probably prefer to go for more consistent enhancement, with less randomness but also less results on large pools of battles. And it is all about what fits you.
