Hello Dave! Super impressed with all you've done and all you do! Also, we're related! Your Grandfather Mead was my Uncle (His sister Eileen was my Mom). Not only that, but you and I must be kindred spirits. Although I'm older than you, it appears our interests are in lockstep regarding woodworking, log homes/timber framing, building, all things self-sufficiency, and God. Seeing you using almost the same exact Skid Steer as the old non-working Case Uniloader 1530 I bought for $600, rebuilt and used for years brings back memories. I started as a small kid going to the woods with an axe and bow saw and carrying back log sections that I would hand split and turn into boards on what was my grandfather's (then my Dad's) joiner/planer with no guard. I would then route letters on the boards to make signs. Bought my first chainsaw and began taking trees down for people with little to no money in exchange for the logs, which I would bring to a friendly old man I knew. He and I would use his "00" Frick Sawmill to cut the logs into boards that I would sticker and air dry and then make furniture (6 drawer vanities to full size pantries with raised cabinet doors, etc.) out of it. Timber-framed a house overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. Built many, many decks for people year after year, but the one thing I always wanted to do was to build a log home like you did!!! And what an amazing & beautiful log home too!!! Interesting you used persimmon trees/logs because I have persimmon (and locust, cherry and poplar) logs on my trailer right now from trees I just cut down on our property. I got some persimmon and cherry 6"x6" x 22 feet long cut out of my last load of logs. Also, we bought land in Tennessee with the intent of living off-grid in 2020, but have gotten so heavily into helping the local Amish folks and doing our own homesteading type activities where we live in Maryland that we are currently under contract to sell our Tennessee land. We never had it up for sale, but people really wanted it so we're going to let it go it seems...
Anyway, sorry for the long note, but just so impressed with you and your family!! Wishing you all the best!!
Warmest Regards!
Jeff
PS... Are you still making bows?
hello and thank you!! Wow kind of incredible how similar we are! We definitely have to get together, the Lord is absolutely at work here. Persimmon is the heaviest stuff and densest I've ever had to deal with...went through a lot of tools, drills, etc while building this cabin...the trees were all free as long as I cut and dragged them all myself...would have been bulldozed and burned by the property owner so instead I asked if I could use them. Too bad you guys didn't do anything in TN I'm only 1.5 hrs from TN. But you all are welcome to visit anytime. my email is meadlongbows@gmail.com yes I still make bows..but mostly following Gods lead on what to do each day...basically going into ministry and truly trying to serve the Lord doing Gods will and only His will. God bless you and yours look forward to talking more. Thank you again!

Hey brother i just want to thank you for putting all those great videos on youtube ive been watching them on rerun since i found them. You seem like a down to earth humble and family oriented man which is everything i aspire to be. The life you built for your self and continue to build is a perfect example of what i have been wanting my whole life. I finally got a good plot of land and i plan on doing exactly what youve done with your place. the wat your kids are growing up in nature is how i was raised and its the best way for a kid to grow up. for now im in the military but soon as i get out i am gonna get right to building just like you have. keep up the great work brother, peace and love God bless!
