Hi, I'm David.

I build and maintain open-source Home Assistant integrations for devices that
shipped without one — hardware that works perfectly well, but that the
manufacturer only ever exposed through a phone app.

The main one is the Daikin BRC1H "Madoka" thermostat. It talks Bluetooth, it
sits on your wall, and until you install this integration the only way to reach
it is Daikin's own app. With it, your heating and cooling become ordinary Home
Assistant entities: temperature, mode, fan speed, filter alerts. No cloud
account, no vendor app, nothing leaving your house.

None of it is a product. It's free, it's MIT-licensed, and it will stay that
way. What it costs is real anyway: the thermostats and ESP32 boards I buy to
test on, the evenings spent reading Bluetooth traces to work out what an
undocumented byte means, and the support — every issue gets read, and most get
answered the same week, including the ones that turn out to be someone else's
firmware.

If any of this saved you an afternoon, a coffee is a nice way to say so. It
changes nothing about the code — everything stays free for everyone — but it
does tell me the work lands somewhere.
